Kitchen Ideas in Real Homes Magazine
Featured in Real Homes magazine: a large kitchen/living area extension in Chiswick, West London. In a house owned by property developer Gary and his wife Jo, who needed more space for themselves and their two sons. Jo is quoted as stipulating that the glazed doors to the garden must have minimal frames to provide the maximum their views of the outside.
They chose SunSeeker UltraSlim aluminium slide-and-pivot doors. In the Project notes section, under “My best buy” Jo is quoted as saying:
I did a lot of research to find the thin-framed aluminium slide and pivot doors.
They were expensive but worth it, as they let in lots of light and don’t obscure the view of the garden.
A breakdown of the project costs is included, showing that the doors were only 7.7% of the total with the kitchen cabinets, worktops and installation amounting to more than three times the cost of the doors.
Innovative door technology that results in giving your home a ‘wow’ factor is often part of a larger building project. Many of our clients, though, have created a brighter indoors by removing an outside wall and having a bank of glass doors installed.
- The advantage of UltraSlim over classic bi folding doors is the minimal disruption to views, as the thin aluminium frames are just 19mm wide.
- The benefit of retractable doors (bi folding or slide & pivot) over traditional sliding glass doors, is the expanse of access between indoors and outdoors, when fully retracted (open), giving a virtually seemless transition.
